Ice Berg Sculpture Canadian Museum of Nature 2015

Numerous trips to the Arctic and Antarctic and experiencing the wonderful shapes of Ice bergs, got me inspired. In the sculpture section of my public presentations I show a series of icebergs and name them after famous artists. however in my estimation it was Canadian group of 7 artist Lawren Harris who captured the iconic images of ice bergs. What a delight that In 2012 I was asked by Meg Beckel CEO at the museum to design an ice berg sculpture for their planned landscape make over of the CMN grounds and in 2015 . and after three years it came to fruition. The engineering and fabrication was taken on by Pure Ingenuity inc in Kingston Ontario and they did a marvelous job

Iron Horses

The first Iron Horse was created as a landmark for the Paddock Restaurant in Greenwood Ontario in 1967. The horse was created from automotive scrap. It now rests in the collection of S. Bruce Mcglaughlin in Mississauga Ontario. The second horse (pictured) is on display at the Western Fair Racetrack in London Ontario.

Yellow Dandelions in a Green field

Yellow Dandelions in a Green field was created from the frame members of a 1927 bus. This simple piece won he best sculpture award at the Toronto City Hall outdoor sculpture show in 1969.

Lunar Lander

In 1971 Bill created a full sized replica of the Lunar Lander for two reasons, he needed an extra room for his growing family near their one room schoolhouse in Brougham Ontario, and secondly to create a monument to the new age of space exploration. This piece was later purchased by the Japanese as part of the Great Space Shuttle Exhibit of 1983, and traveled through five cities in Japan. The Lander was later donated to and is currently on display at the Oklahoma Aviation and Space hall of Fame

Transcending the Traffic

Answering the need for the vertical element for the Land Transportation Plaza at Expo 86 in Vancouver Lishman’s team created Transcending the traffic. Fifty five steel figures ascend the 86 foot high steel tower . The Sculptures devolve from cars in a traffic jam to a mass of destroyed automobile parts and end up in human forms. It is a monument to the de-evolution of the wheel and a celebration of our best land transportation, our legs. The top figure was inspired by the legs of Tina Turner. All the Figures are currently on display at Lishman’s home in Purple Hill Ontario. Click on the thumbnail images below to see bigger pictures.

AUTOHENGE

Created ayear prior to it’s brother Carhenge in Nebraska, autohenge is a full scale replica of Britain’s famed Stonehenge. Classified as “the finest rendition of stonehenge anywhere” by Professor Christopher Chippendale of Cambridge University, its photo graces the cover of his book, Visions of Stonehenge. Located on a grassy knoll, just north of Oshawa, Canada’s automobile manufacturing center, Autohenge existed for five years and attracted tourists from around the world. Hasta La Vista Baby

This piece is a 22 foot high wire-frame monument to pregnancy that features a life sized male fetus in the image of Arnold Swarzenegger. First exhibited at the Minstry of Finanace building in Oshawa Ontario, the piece caused a minor controversy and was almost moved to the Minstry of Labour (joke)

Icehenge

Quarried from the foot thick ice of lake Scugog in mid Winter, Icehenge was created by 2 dozen modern day Ice Druids in 3 days. It existed for two more before it sank into the murky depths at the foot of Queen Street Port Perry.

The Tablearium

A simple Idea, combine a glass top table table with a wooden base that can be used for plants, pictures, pets, potatoes – anything you like to display.

The Lishman Rocker

A beautiful free form rocking chair that features a cast-iron tractor seat and backrest. Several hundred of these were made in the late 70’s and are still around today. It was featured in several magazines around the world, Bill insists, because of the drool coming out of Geordie’s mouth in the photo on the right.

These Rockers are now Collectors Items One that was featured in Architectural Digest last summer (07) sold for $5,800, turns out I have enough seats and back castings to make 23 more. As I never throw out anything I still have the bending dies and assembly jig so if you would like one of the last 23 (numbered 08-01 through 23, Richard Vanheuvelen and I will make them to order but we will only make them in stainless steel ( the seats and backs are cast aluminum ) price until march 30/ 08 is $4000 each if interested email LIsHman@I-Zoom.net
